Abstract:
The present experiment investigation is to asses the effect two forms of reinforcement such as coir mat and coir fibre to determine the effect of size of the footing on the bearing capacity and reinforced sand. The effect of surface treatment of coir fibre on bearing capacity and settlement characteristics of reinforced sand were also investigated. It was found that BCR is maximum u/B=0.3 when sand is reinforced with coir mat for given size of the model footing. The size of the model footing BCR becomes maximum at u/B=1.0, when sand is treated as untreated coir fibers. When sand is reinforced with untreated coir fibre the peak strain increase with increase in the u/B ratio, for both size of model footing. Increase significant between u/B ratios 0.3 to 1.0. Also with size of footing there is increasing peak strain.
