Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to examine how the surface roughness of alloy steel EN43 is affected by hard turning. Tests were conducted on the CNC lathe using different cutting parameters. The surface was evaluated in terms of surface roughness. Tests showed that hard turning provide good surface finish. Process parameters (cutting speed, depth of cut and feed rate) are used as input parameters. Taguchi method is implemented to find out the optimum cutting parameters for surface roughness (Ra) in hard turning. The L9orthogonal array, signal to noise ratio and analysis of variance has been employed to study the performance characteristics in turning of alloy steel EN 43 using carbide inserts (WNMG1.2/0804808CQ CA5525). Experimental data have been used to generate, compare and evaluate the proposed model of surface roughness for the considered material.
