Abstract:
Life of any machine is critical in view of availability asset management and cost. Every machine has its own estimated life. This estimate is made by considering various factors such as material used, operating condition, environmental conditions etc. Sudden pre-failure of machine cost very high financial loss. Machine failure mechanism are different depend on different parts of machine. Some or repairable and some are permanent fault. The permanent fault known as end of life. One and only major problem in permanent failure is its timing. So if we know the time of the forthcoming failure so that we can plan for the remedial action. In recent Mica based insulations are used in high voltage rotating Machines. Here insulation related machine life will be discussed. Insulation aging behaviour is depends on various factors such as Temperature, Moisture, Electrical stress etc.Remaining life of insulation can be calculated based on strength of the insulation and stress applied to it. Strength of insulation become weaker as the age is elapsing. Stress to insulation is varying based on various condition of Load, Voltage quality, surges, sudden changes, mechanical stresses and chemical expose. To understand the life of machine, insulation system need to understand first, right from design, manufacturing and operation. Life curve of machine will be discussed and algorithm for life will be established. Further health index will be calculated based on various test of machine and health index will be correlate with life expectancy.
